Call for action to stop voting through CETA 📢

We are alarming all residents of Ireland to contact immediately their TD’s in relation to the CETA ratification planned for this Tuesday, following the Yellow Vest Ireland Facebook page and an appeal from Anna Kavanagh, a community activist from Longford,

CETA – an agreement by many called “liberalism on steroids” which once ratified by the Irish Parliament – what is attempted on Tuesday – will put the national interest of Ireland in danger allowing multinational corporations to sue the Irish Government for any progressive, for instance environmental, legislation.

As per Yellow Vest Ireland appeal:

“(…)your immediate action is required. Please email your local TDs and contact their offices Monday morning demanding they not consent to this madness and vote against.

Quite possibly THE most devastating legislation in the history of this state is about to be pushed through the Dáil this Tuesday.

If Fine Gael/Fianna Fáil and The Greens are successful, they will grant corporations and big business the ability to SUE the state into submission if any future government tries to defy them.

Eg. if a future government tried to build social housing then a vulture fund could sue claiming such moves affect their profit potential.

The really scary thing is that they won’t sue in an Irish court. They would take their grievance to the Investor State Dispute Mechanism Court that will consist of international adjudicators who would make judgements on behalf of big business.

“The Investment Court cannot be used by citizens or domestic companies and it is rightly viewed as an undemocratic vehicle for wealthy vested interests to undermine the ability of lawmakers to regulate for the welfare of citizens, communities and the environment.”

Every single voter out there needs to immediately contact their local TD in these parties to order them not to pass this legislation.

Or the damage to this state will be permanent. “

Here is also a short message from Anna Kavanagh on her Facebook page:

This short video below is explaining in more detail the character of CETA and how the Irish government and parliament in the past supported it against the national interest of the country and its people.

Please send a short e-mail saying for example:

I call upon your conscience and deep and true understanding of the national interest of the Republic of Ireland and strongly demand from you to vote against ratification of CETA. I, the resident/citizen of Ireland do not wish this country and the future of its people to be dependant on big financial interest of multinational companies being able to effectively block any progressive legislation created here to benefit the people of Ireland under a threat of suing and seeking damages from the Irish government.

I expect a prompt reply with your commitment to vote against CETA.

Any other vote betrays the people living in the Republic of Ireland.

Best regards,
