Veteran Irish journalist Dave Cullen, host of “The Dave Cullen Show,” recently featured as a guest speaker on Hello Irlandia Show #137 to discuss his new novel, “Deus v Machina,” and his perspectives on AI’s growing influence in Hollywood. The #Polish show, broadcast #live straight from #Ireland every Wednesday at 21.00 GMT, offers a subjective rundown of important news and events.

Dave Cullen is an Irish journalist, YouTuber, film critic and author. He is best known for his YouTube channel, The Dave Cullen Show, where he reviews films, TV shows and critiques mass media, technology, Hollywood and pop culture. Cullen is a graduate of Griffith College Dublin, where he holds a degree in Journalism. He began his career making documentary films in science and technology. He later transitioned to making incisive review videos of technology products such as smartphones, tablets and laptops on his YouTube channel. In 2016, he launched The Dave Cullen Show and began making video reviews on the cultural impact of such entertainment franchises as Star Trek, Star Wars, Doctor Who and the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He is known for his analytical and thought-provoking social and cultural commentaries, and has been a staunch advocate of independent media and film. Cullen published his first novel, Deus v Machina: A Cody Stockton Mystery, in November 2024. The book is a science fiction, noir mystery set in Las Vegas in the year 2045. It’s a fast-paced adventure that tells the story of a private investigator who becomes embroiled in a global conspiracy that involves a deadly satanic cult, an advanced artificial intelligence, and the Second Coming of Christ. Deus v Machina is a spiritual tale that blends genres in a captivating and engaging way and explores themes of forgiveness and faith. In March 2025, Cullen published a non-fiction book called The Checkmate Machine: How Modern Smart Tech Ruins Everything . The book is desired as a collection of essays he wrote about my concerns regarding the direction of modern consumer technology. It specifically focuses on the negative impacts of smart tech on our lives individually and on wider society. These essays are taken from scripts from some of his videos, as well as some entirely new content written for the book. The topics include: Smart cities, Digital IDS, Digital Currencies, Artificial intelligence, Automation, Transhumanism and more. Cullen continues to produce YouTube videos for The Dave Cullen Show on a weekly basis.

During his appearance, Cullen drew on his 20 years of experience to express concerns about AI potentially diluting human artistry in favour of algorithm-driven content. His novel’s title, “Deus v Machina” (God versus Machine), hints at a central theme exploring the complex relationship between humanity and artificial intelligence within the entertainment industry. Cullen also touched upon a perceived decline of “woke Hollywood” in relation to these technological shifts.
